Patron: - Is this one of those “teach a man to fish” situations?
Dewey: - Yes. Including the part where I wash my hands afterwards.

Dewey: - Vale, yo haré clic (sobre el icono) y buscaré la respuesta por usted.
Usuario: - ¿Es ésta una de esas situaciones (de tipo) “enséñale a pescar”?
Dewey: - Sí. Incluida la parte donde después yo me lavo las manos.
COMENTARIOS:
to click = hacer clic o clicar (con el ratón, por ejemplo, sobre un icono)
I want (somebody) to do = quiero que (alguien) haga.
Esta construcción es muy habitual en inglés. La segunda frase lleva el verbo en infinitivo (en castellano lleva el verbo en subjuntivo).
Y atención al sujeto de la segunda frase, que usa me, him, her, us, them
y no I, he, she, we, they. Ejemplos:
I want you to go shopping for me = quiero que hagas la compra por mí.
she wants me to stay = (ella) quiere que me quede.
I want them to quit = quiero que lo dejen, que abandonen.
to look up = buscar y encontrar, por ejemplo, en un libro o bien por internet.
Por ejemplo: I will look up that word in the dictionary;
I tried to look him up when I visited Oslo, but he wasn’t home.
También se usa para decir “mejorando”:
Por ejemplo: things are looking up at last = por fin las cosas van mejorando.
Conocido refrán chino:
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for today.
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime“. =
“Dale a alguien pescado y lo alimentarás hoy.
Enséñale a pescar y lo alimentarás toda su vida”.
En la web es fácil encontrar parodias de la segunda parte de este refrán:
“Teach a man to fish; and you can sell him fishing equipment.” =
Enséñale a pescar, y le podrás vender equipo de pesca.
“Teach a man to fish, and he will sit in the boat and drink beer all day.” =
Enséñale a pescar, y se pasará el día sentado en la barca bebiendo cerveza.
“Teach a man to sell fish and he eats steak.” =
Enséñale a vender pescado, y podrá comer bistec.
I wash my hands = me lavo las manos (del asunto)
afterwards = después
Atención al diferente uso de ‘afterwards‘ = después, más tarde; y ‘after‘ = después de (algo).
Por ejemplo: We’ll go shopping, and afterwards we’ll go home to have lunch.
Pero: We’ll go shopping, and after that, we’ll go home to have lunch. O bien:
We’ll go home to have lunch after we go shopping.
