Dear colleagues,
In the previous post we saw that Merv invented the business of guarding the belongings of readers who have to go to the bathroom, in exchange for money. Mel, the director, says he can not charge for these services or do businesses in the library.
Meanwhile, the reader gets back, and thanks Merv for the service, who continues with his business, and even tries to improve it: with discount coupons —probably “lifted” from a nearby coffee shop- he tries to encourage the users to drink huge coffees. In this way the rascal hopes to build his business because people will have to go to the bathroom more frequently.

Mel: -You can’t charge for services in here.
Merv: -That guy gets paid to tutor (pointing Dewey).
Mel: -You can’t run a business in here.
Merv: -That lady’s doing her books. You just helped her with her deductions.
User: -Thanks for watching my stuff while I was in the bathroom!
Merv: -Thanks for drinking a huge coffee. Here’s a coupon for more (the coupon reads “10% off”).
TRADUCCIÓN
Como vimos en la nota anterior, Merv inventa el negocio de guardar las pertenencias de los lectores que tienen que ir al baño a cambio de un dinero. Mel, la directora, le dice que no puede cobrar por esos servicios ni montar negocios en la biblioteca.
Mientras, el lector vuelve, y agradece el servicio a Merv, quien sigue con su negocio, y hasta trata de mejorarlo: mediante vales de descuento —probablemente birlados de una cafetería cercana- intenta que los usuarios tomen cafés grandes. De esta manera el pillo pretende aumentar su negocio porque la gente tendrá que acudir a los servicios más frecuentemente.
Mel: -No puedes cobrar por hacer servicios aquí.
Merv: -A ese hombre se le paga para hacer de tutor (señalando a Dewey).
Mel: – No puedes poner un negocio aquí.
Merv: -Aquella señora está haciendo su declaración. Usted la ayudó con su contabilidad.
Usuario: ¡Gracias por vigilar mis cosas mientras yo estaba en el baño!
Merv: -Gracias por tomar un café grande. Aquí tiene un vale para más (en el vale se puede leer “10% de descuento”).
VOCABULARIO

Mel adopta un tono enfático repitiendo casi la misma frase y remarcando “in here” en vez de simplemente “here”.
to do the books = llevar las cuentas, hacer la contabilidad
