No doubt you all will agree that to perform as a librarian in a library or as an information especialist in a documentation centre one must have good psychological skills. To deal with the public sometimes requires patience; also, it is difficult to interview users to ascertain their information needs, and then, perhaps, you have to be tactful to deliver the brilliant results of your search without uppsetting the user who had failed to generate them.
In today’s strip a user queries the catalogue of the Mallville library and the Dewey the librarian is trying to help. The arrogant response from the user produces a retort from the librarian:

Patron: -Does a meerkat explain to the lion how to bring down a gazelle?
Dewey [pointing to the screen]: -No. But if the lion were looking for the latest “Steben King” he’d help correct its spelling.

Estaréis de acuerdo que para ejercer de bibliotecario en una biblioteca o de documentalista en un centro de documentación hay que tener buenas dotes psicológicas. El trato con el público a veces requiere paciencia, y también resulta complicado entrevistar a los usuarios para conocer sus necesidades de información, para luego, quizá, hasta haya que tener tacto para entregar los brillantes resultados de nuestras búsquedas sin que se moleste quien no ha sabido encontrarlos.
En esta tira de comic una usuaria consulta el catálogo de la biblioteca de Mallville y el bibliotecario Dewey intenta ayudar. La respuesta soberbia de la usuaria recibe una réplica mordaz por parte del bibliotecario.
Consejo de la biblioteca número 80: Ahí afuera es una jungla.
Dewey: -¿Puedo explicarle cómo funciona el catálogo?
Usuaria: -¿Acaso un suricata explica al león cómo abatir a una gacela?
Dewey [señalando a la pantalla]: -No. Pero si el león estuviera buscando el último “Steben King” le ayudaría a corregir su ortografía.
