The Mallville PL has begun using the new self-service system for book reserves that Dewey suggested: as borrowed books are returned, the librarians place them on a special shelf, spine down so that the patrons’ reading preferences are not visible. A bookmark is inserted in the books showing the name of the person who had reserved it, thus allowing for individuals to pick up their own reserves (Ref.)
As we can see from today’s entry, some users are having a little trouble getting used to it.

Patron: - I have a book on hold.
Dewey: - Great. Have a look for it on our self-service shelves.
Patron: - I don’t understand.
Dewey: - Your book is over there, filed under your name.
Patron: - I still don’t understand.
Dewey: - I know. That’s why I’ll always have job security.

En la BP de Mallville usan el sistema de recogida de libros que pensó Dewey: cuando quien los tenÃa en préstamo los devuelve, los bibliotecarios los colocan lomo abajo –para preservar las preferencias de lectura de la gente- en unos estantes especiales, con un punto de lectura con el nombre del lector que lo ha reservado (Ref.)
Los lectores se van habituando al nuevo sistema, pero a alguno le cuesta un poquillo…
Lector: - Tengo un libro reservado.
Dewey: - Estupendo. Eche un vistazo en nuestros estantes de auto-servicio.
Lector: - No entiendo.
Dewey: - Su libro está allÃ, archivado por su nombre.
Lector: - TodavÃa no entiendo.
Dewey: - Vale. Por esto tendré yo siempre el trabajo asegurado.
