Read-it, read-it, read-it

Dear friends,

Librarians seem to be quite a gold mine of humour and creativity. So, Alice and I needn’t worry about having material for this section: we’ll have plenty available for ages to come.

Recently we discovered this page http://www.librarybooks4u.com/object.html, where we just picked up the first item, which seemed amusing enough to be presented to you today:

Chickens in Libraries
A chicken walks into the library. It goes up to the circulation desk and says: “book, bok, bok, boook”.
The librarian hands the chicken a book. It tucks it under his wing and runs out. A while later, the chicken runs back in, throws the first book into the return bin and goes back to the librarian saying: “book, bok, bok, bok, boook”. Again the librarian gives it a book, and the chicken runs out. The librarian shakes her head.
Within a few minutes, the chicken is back, returns the book and starts all over again: “boook, book, bok bok boook”. The librarian gives him yet a third book, but this time as the chicken is running out the door, she follows it.
The chicken runs down the street, through the park and down to the riverbank. There, sitting on a lily pad is a big, green frog. The chicken holds up the book and shows it to the frog, saying: “Book, bok, bok, boook”. The frog blinks, and croaks: “read-it, read-it, read-it”.

Pollos en bibliotecas
Un pollo entra en la biblioteca. Va al mostrador de préstamo y dice: “book, bok, bok, boook”.
La bibliotecaria entrega un libro al pollo. Él lo mete bajo su ala y sale corriendo. Al cabo de un rato el pollo vuelve a entrar, tira el primer libro en la bandeja de devoluciones y vuelve a la bibliotecaria diciendo: “book, bok, bok, bok, boook”. Nuevamente la bibliotecaria le da un libro, y el pollo sale corriendo. La bibliotecaria sacude la cabeza.
En unos pocos minutos el pollo vuelve, devuelve el libro y empieza otra vez: “boook, book, bok bok boook”. La bibliotecaria le da un tercer libro, pero esta vez, en cuanto el pollo sale por la puerta, ella le sigue.
El pollo corre calle abajo, a través del parque y hasta el río. Allí, sentada en un lecho de azucenas, está una gran rana verde. El pollo mantiene levantado el libro y se lo enseña a la rana diciendo: “book, bok, bok, bok, boook”. La rana pestañea y croa: “read-it, read-it, read-it”.

Probablemente a algunos os ha entrado la duda de cómo pronunciar “read”, ya que tiene 2 formas según el tiempo del verbo: con la vocal pronunciada como “i” para el presente y “e” para el pasado. En nuestra historieta el contexto nos lo deja claro, la vocal se pronuncia como “e”, ya que la rana insiste en que ya había leído los libros, y por ello el pollo se ve en la necesidad de devolverlos. Esta pronunciación, y sacando el sonido hondo desde la garganta, es una conocida onomatopeya inglesa para imitar el croar de las ranas.

Bueno, si más no, tenéis una historieta para contar a los niños que conozcáis que aprenden inglés.
