to skim = leer por encima, repasar, echarle un vistazo / rozar.
skim milk (American), skimmed milk (British) = leche descremada
to scan = recorrer con la vista, leer escudriñando.

supporting data = datos que apoyan una hipótesis o unas conclusiones

to make it = conseguir pasar un obstáculo, salirse con la suya…
