Dewey: -I’m only a few minutes late.
Dewey: -If I’d stopped to call I’d have been later.
Mel: -It’s important to follow proper procedure!
Mel: -Time is of the essence!
Dewey: -Then what should I be doing instead of having this conversation?
TRANSLATION
Mel, la directora de la Biblioteca Pública de Mallville, reprende al bibliotecario Dewey porque llega tarde otra vez. En vez de disculparse, Dewey se defiende diciendo que sólo se ha retrasado unos minutos y aun se permite contestar con sarcasmo, a su estilo habitual.
Mel: —¡Cuando llegas tarde espero una llamada!
Dewey: -Sólo llego unos minutos tarde.
Dewey: -Si me hubiera parado a llamar habría llegado aún más tarde.
Mel: ¡Es importante respetar los procedimientos correctos!
Mel: ¡El tiempo es muy importante!
Dewey: -Entonces ¿qué tendría que estar haciendo en vez de mantener esta conversación?
