Dewey is trying to promote a book among the readers of the library, but his strategy has not succeeded. Of course he does so in his rather peculiar way…

Dewey: - Treating it like an infectious disease just turned people off.
Tamara: - What’s your new plan?
Dewey: - Leave it lying around until someone steals it.

Dewey: - He usado (he estado usando) una táctica equivocada con este libro.
Dewey: - Tratarlo como una enfermedad infecciosa sólo desalentó a la gente.
Tamara: - ¿Cuál es tu nuevo plan?
Dewey: - Dejarlo por ahí hasta que alguien lo robe.
VOCABULARY
to take the wrong tack = equivocarse de dirección, de rumbo
the wrong tack = el rumbo equivocado
tack = rumbo, táctica, manera de intentar resolver un problema
infectious disease [infékshes disís] = enfermedad infecciosa, contagiosa
turn off = apagar, cerrar, convertir, desviar, desalentar.
Fijémonos en lo mucho que se usa y abusa del gerundio en inglés (I’ve been taking; Treating it; Leave it lying…).
Hay gente que llega a decir frases tan poco cuidadas como:
I am going to be leaving the book lying on the table = Voy a dejar el libro que está en la mesa.
Lo correcto sería: I will leave the book lying on the table.
En las traducciones al español en general deberemos evitar mimetizar los gerundios ingleses.
